In the world of Afterschool and Summer Learning it is clear that this field wants… no DEMANDS!… high quality professional development.

OAN has absolutely been listening and is now in the initial stages of planning a high-quality, affordable and relevant professional development experience. It is OAN’s intention to design this event with stakeholders in mind and to have input from conference participants as the event is developed.

Recently OAN conducted a survey of members and stakeholders to ascertain a plan for logistics – the date, time and length of the ideal conference for the Afterschool and Summer Learning professional in Ohio.

OAN would like to offer many thanks to those individuals who responded and provided feedback.

Sharing the results of this survey is an important next step in the inclusion of our members in the development of this conference. Here is an analysis of the survey:

  • Most of our respondents were experts. 42 considered themselves a “Seasoned (2 or more years) Administrator” and 40 considered themselves a “Seasoned (2 or more years) Afterschool or Summer Provider”. We also had 14 responses from individuals who were “Support Service Provider (Vendor, Consultant, Resource & Referral, etc.)”.
  • The date preferred by most respondents was Friday, February 23, 2018. A one day conference was preferred over a two day conference (and there is little to no chance that anyone would be interested in attending a conference on a Saturday. )
  • Most preferred a conference from 9:00AM – 4:00PM. However, a significant number said 10:00AM – 4:00PM was their preference. The conference planning committee will examine the start time to see if there is a compromise to be made.
  • General conference comments that particularly resonated included “easy road access and parking”, “provide a continental breakfast and lunch”, and “have presentation input from those really doing the work”. Comments will be reviewed by the planning committee – thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Next steps will include creating a Save the Date card, finding a venue and convening a planning committee. If you provided your name and email in the survey, you will be contacted soon for first steps in the planning process… but it’s not too late to lend your voice!
