Students entering Kindergarten through those who just graduated from high school are invited to share their business ideas and compete for awesome prizes in OAN’s Summer Pitch Challenge!
The Ohio Afterschool Network’s Summer Pitch Challenge is open to all Ohio elementary, middle, high school and recent graduates. It is a way for students to pitch an idea for a business product, service or even business that solves social problems. Students are not required to start a business; they just need to submit a 45-90 second pitch video by the July 31st deadline.

Thanks to Brandy Spurgeon, Bunsold Afterschool Enrichment (BASE) Coordinator from Marysville, Ohio, for sharing her story about how her program used their 3D printers to manufacture face masks using a design from Rowan University for their community! Listen to the recording to hear Brandy’s story.
Here is the link for the Rowan University mask, https://engineering.rowan.edu/research-centers/mask/.
“In case many of you did not know, BASE had purchased 3D printers during the 2018-2019 school year. We have been granted the opportunity to print reusable face masks with our 3D printers for the community. While these are not a N95 replacement mask, they have been approved by the Union County Health Department. Rowan University developed the mask and allowed others to use the print file.“
“BASE is currently taking requests to receive a mask. As of now, the limit is 1 per resident of Union County. Simply fill out the google form to request a mask. Mask pickups will take place at Bunsold Middle School bi-weekly (these will be free). If you are requiring a drop off, we are asking for a $10 donation to the BASE program (cash or check).“
“Each mask packet comes with a mask, the filter, blue towels to place in the filter, elastic and instructions on how to fit the mask (colors of mask are random and vary).”
“Each round has a maximum of 50 requests. The next pick up is scheduled for June 18th from 10am-Noon at door A of Bunsold Middle School. Please stay tuned for more details. https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSd0lTLWwnGIn1a42…/viewform…“
GET INVOLVED WITH OAN
This organization thrives with the support of leaders in the field of Afterschool and Summer Learning who contribute their time and talent to OAN initiatives. For those looking to give back to OAN, please consider getting involved in the following projects:
WEBSITE REBOOT COMMITTEE– OAN has received a grant to re-design the OAN website. Join this ad-hoc committee to help review and comment on the development of this new OAN communications tool.
DATA MAP COMMITTEE – OAN will assemble a team for a series of meetings to evaluate and update the data map. Join this ad-hoc committee to weigh in on the information you want to see on the map.
CONFERENCE PLANNING COMMITTEE – This ongoing committee will help with the planning of OTAGS and the 2021 Best Foot Forward Statewide Conference for OST Professionals. OTAGS will run in August and BFF RFP review is starting now. Please consider weighing in on what PD will be needed next winter at this event.
